"THE BOY'S MOTHER."
WHO IS SPEAKING THE TRUTH? j A CHALLENGE. • The No-License party inserted an advertisement in Saturday's Dominion impugning ,'tho good faith of tho letter signed "The ; Boy's Mother," written to an Ashburton paper, and re-published, in the columns of 'i'nii Dominion. This advertisement alleged that tho boy was in the habit of obtaining bis liquor not in Ashburton, but in tho adjoining license town of Chertsey, and quoted, in proof, tho fact that on Friday, Juno 22, the proprietor of tho Chertsey Hotel was charged that lie did, on Sunday, June 3, sell liquor to on'o Thompson (whilo tho boy was in his company). Tho suggestion is that this happened this vear, WHEREAS. AS A MATTER OF FACT, IT HAPPENED TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO, and, therefore, had no reference at all to tho recent-case. A reference to tho calendar will show that tho last timo Juno 3 fell on a Sunday was in 3.900. The No-Liccnso party is challenged to explain why the year was suppressed! Are the other statements in tho letter no more truthful than this? So much publicity lias been given to this matter that in order to show her bona fides tho unhappy mother. has authorised tho publication of her name and address, and will reply to anyone sending a stamped addressed envelope to Mrs. Wakeham, Aitkon Street, Ashburton.
