COMPENSATION COURT.
YESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS. : A sitting of the Compensation Court was held yesterday, Mr. Justice Chapman presiding. The first case mentioned was that of Miss Bowden and Hall v. the Minister for Railways, a claim for £1500 for land taken near Ngahauranga. Mr. Morison appeared on behalf of the claimants, and Mr. Fell for' tho respondents. Mr. Morison asked that before'any award should be made lio should'be permitted to mention the question of interest. ' His Honour said he. could'not do anything at the present time; ho would, therefore, simply adjourn the case for, say, three weeks. Ho did not know when Mr. Miles (the assessor for tho Crown) would be back. With reference to the su : t of Alfred Luscornbe, of England, v. the City Corporation— a claim for £4132 for the taking of land at the corner of Thornden Quay, and Sydney Street for the purposes of tramway officesit was stated that tho parties bad arrived at an amicable settlement. Respondents were to' pay to claimant £2500; each party was to pay its own assessor five guineas; and cach party was to pay its own costs. His Honour made an award in accordance with tho terms of the settlement. Mr. Fell appeared on behalf of tho claimants, and' Mr. O'Shea for the respondents. The Court then adjourned until Monday, October 26, at 10.30 o'clor.k.
