[Tho October Stakes is a weight-for-age race, one milo and a quarter, worth about £250 to the winner. This is the second raco that Pink 'Un has won since going to the, other side some eighteen months ago. A private cablegram received in the city yesterday stated that tho Strowan horse carried 9st. 111b. in tho raco. Last year the October Stakes' was won by another New Zealand horse, Subterranean, also trained by D. J. Price. The result of Saturday's. raco will bring into, the market for tho Caulfield Cup, in which lie ; has ~Bst., lib. This order was maintained round the bend. Erie and Proportion were first into tho straight;; from Mooltanjnnd Maranui, with Peru coming fast.
