THE PEOPLE AND THE STATE
Sir,— Reading an article in your paper under the heading of "The People and the State " impressed mo witli the idea that the person whp sent it knew very little about Billingsgate Market. I doubt whether "Nvm" has even been in London; if he has, ho ought to know that Billingsgate is the biggest fish-market in the world, and has nothing to do with farm produce. Ho must have gathered his ideas in New Zealand, as it is impossible for anyone who has been in England to have an idea of sending vegetables to Billingsgate market. I should advise " N.Y.M." to study a book .called "History of London" before he writes to this paper again. If there is anything " N.Y.M." would like to know about Billingsgate I should be very pleased to oblige him.—l am, etc., A LATE MEMBER OF THE MARKET. September 28.
