THE RAIN.

A soft, warm, drizzling rain commenced, to fall in' the Wairarapa on Friday evening (writes our correspondent), and continued till forenoon on Saturday. The downpour, which was viewed with unqualified delight by farmers, could not have come at a better timo, and was neither more nor less than was desired. A few regular showors !of this description for the next two months and the season's future will bo almost assured. Farmers state that so far the spring has been the most : successful'experienced for six or seven years. Oat crops and pastures are in splendid condition all through tho Wairarapa and Hawko's Bay districts, Hawke's Bay having come on splendidly during the past fortnight. It! is probable,' however, that more-, moisture would be beneficial in the centre of the Wairarapa'and in some portions near the East Coast. The amount of land which is still being broken up in tho Wairarapa is most noticeable,, and this is an evidence of the farmer's determination to do his best ,to nullify tho effects of a possibly bad season. • A finoj'warm, and welcome, rain commenced to fall on Friday night (says our Pahiatua correspondent), arid continued intermittently throughout Saturday. Tho rainfall on Friday night (says a Masterton/Press Association telegram) proved very beneficial. There has been a wonderful growth, in crops during tho last few, weeks. Largo areas of r oats and Cape Barley have been sown this season. Tho creeks in tho Wairarapa aro lower than they usually are in January.. The rivers are also phenomenally low. Ewes with'lambs at foot are in better condition than for several years past. A Press Association telegram from Napier says:—Splendid rain fell during Friday night, but much more is . needed. . Tho rainfall in September was. but 0.90 in lowest sinco .1898. • 7 / • A Press Association message*, from Woodville on Saturday ,'stated;'that' splendid rain ■had been' what the dairy, farm-, ers wanted. v • . !
