"THE BOY'S MOTHER."

* A REPLY. Tho Liquor party published as an advertisement last week a letter over the signature "The Boy's Mother," alleged to be written by a prominent member of the Prohibition Party. The following signed letter in reply to a wire for particulars speaks for itself (names are deleted): — Dear , In reply to your wire, I send you the following facts:—(l) Mrs. W. lias never in' any way been identified with the prohibition party. We have the very best authority for saying that she has always been opposed to tho No-Licenso reform. Mrs. W.'s sou often used to fetch liquor from the hotel in the days of license. Since No-Licenso has been in forco liquor has been procured by Mr. and Mrs. W. for use in tho homo. (2) Mrs. W.'s son docs not always procure his liquor in the No-License area. Facts which camo out in the following caso 'prove this conclusively :—Ou Friday, June 22, Edwards Phillips March, proprietor of tho Chcrtsfiy Hotel, was charged at tho' Ashburton Magistrate's Court: That ho did on Sunday, June 3, sell liquor to one Thompson, of Ashburton, and was fined £5. H. T. deposed that ho went to Chertsey with tho two W.'s. Had tea at the hotel. Tho tlireo of them also had two drinks front Mr. March. Tho above facts speak for themselves. I am, etc.. F. 'SHINER, No-Licenso cannot be held responsible for Sunday trading on licensed premises in a licenso area. If sly grog-shops are so plentiful in Ashburton, why is it necessary for a self-confesscd sly-grog frequenter to go ten miles out oF Ashburton to. a license area in order to procure liquor on a Sunday? The Liqour party, m whose interest that letter was published, could stop sly grogselling to-morrow if they would. Tho advertisod coucorn about it is a hollow sham.
