THORNDON SWIMMING CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT. The eleventh annual meeting of the Thorndon Amateur , Swimming Club will be held on Monday next. The report' and balancesheet state that members are to bo congratulated : on_ the very creditable results obtained both in respect to swimming and finance. The balance to credit, after paying all expenses incurred during the season, amounts to £16 135., of which £10 16s. Id. was brought forward from last season. The club puffered a severe loss towards the close of tho season through the death of Mr. A. Macdonald, vice-president.' The annual carnival took place on January 18, and was an unqualified success iii every way. At the commencement of the : season tho club's pat-, ron, Sir Joseph Ward, presented the club with a handsome silver cup for competition among members. R. Ronayne, who swam consistently throughout the season, was successful in being tho first holder. " Several of our members," the report continues, "journeyed to Masterton on January - 22 to'compete at the Mastcrton Club's carnival, and were successful in carrying off several events, obtaining five firsts and six seconds. Fred. Roberts won the 75yds. and 30yds. Wairarapa championships, R. Ronayne being second in each. At tho Wellington Centre's championship carnival, Fred. Roberts was again successful in securing tho 100 yds. "Wellington provincial championship. L. Aekins, vice-captain, tendered his resignation at tho beginning of the season, this step being necessitated by his living out of town. A. St. Clair was unanimously elected in his stead. In order to promote and further the social aspect of tho I club a number, of swimming picnics were held I during tho season at Maori Bank, Upper Hutt, and wore much appreciated. "Tho season wound up with a smoke concert on April-14 at Godber's Rooms, Cuba Street. As a result of tho overtures of' Mr. Firth, roman' rings and a water chute have been installed at the baths, and swimmers in general owe much to him in this respect."
