"THE SILENT FLUSHER."

A new patent is being put on the market ill the form of, a ; silent flusher, obviously a most, desirable acquisition. The inventor is Mr. W. Turnbull, architect, and-the flushers are made on the premises'of Messrs. Jenkins and Mack, Featlierston Street, Wellington. The desideratum of silence is obtained by doing awav with the ordinary cistern and noisy ball-cook, and inserting a low-pressure itank,- thus: dispensing with the noise. Another feature is that the unsightly pipes are' also removed. : The flusher is easy of operation, slight action on a' lever being "all that is roquired. The great loss of water which takes place under'the present conditions ; by leakage will' be . practically obviated, thus effecting an economy in plumbers' bills for repairs to ball valves.- Another, advantage would be the absolute prevention of deliberate waste by fastening back the handle, or in any other way tampering with the apparatus; . The extremely sanitary nature of the • new idea is an important point. The parts are few,' simple, and strong, and the cost of , maintenance is practically nil, the apparatus being specially suitable for , large business places and good houses. Mr. w. H. Morton, Assoc. M. Inst. C.E., City, Engineer, writes: —"After having recently, inspected jour new type of silent-flushinjg apparatus for use in flushing ordinary w.'c. pedestals, I have to info'rm you that in the various tests to which- it was subjected, very satisfactory results were obtained, and that,' as a consequence, it is to be fixed at the South Wellington Public Library. Similar letters were received from Mr. W. Ferguson, M.1.C.E., M.1.M.E., and Mr. R. L. Mestayer, M. Inst. CXE. Full particulars are given in a, full. page advertisement in to-day's issue., ,
