After tho United States r Fleet left Albany, Mr. Deakin cabled to President Roosevelt, expressing gratification and thanks .for tho visit of tho splendid fleet, and added:— ■"Wo would greatly appreciate another opportunity of honouring your country, this tinio in your own person. • Wo hopo that in your projected tour .next year wo may bo able to welcome a visit of Theodoro Roosevelt, the individual, after you have relinquished the heavy burden and high responsibilities of your office."
THE VISIT IMPOSSIBLE. (Reo. October 2, 11.40 p.m.) Now York, October 2, President Roosevelt, in : thanking Mr. E.. W. Howard, British Councillor of Embassy, for Mr. Deakin's-message and invitation, intimated that it was impossible to make the suggested visit to Australia. '
