Butterfly Bazaar. A Butterfly Bazaar was the name given to the sale 'of work at St. Thomas's School, which was-opened yesterday by Mrs. Hislop, and which is being continued this afternoon and evening. It is in aid of the funds of St. Thomas's Church. There are various attractions in addition to the stall, and of these tho prettiest is the maypole dance by a number of children dressed in quaint and picturesque costumes. They were under direction of Miss Gough and 'Miss Bland,' and went through their steps very well, tho girls looking more at ease in their- unaccustomed attire than did the boys. In the afternoon there was a diabolo competition for girls, and this afternoon there is to be one for boys, and the children are to;, do songs and marches as tliey did last night to the satisfaction of the audience. There are several side shows. The names of the stallholders are as follow:—Plain stall: Mrs. Chapman, Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Twist, Mrs. Wales. Fancy stall: Mrs. Marsden,'"Mrs. Rhodes, Art stall : Miss Allen, Miss E. H. Alien. Produce and flower stall: Mrs. Croll, Miss Croll. Sweets- stall: Mrs. Fisher, Miss Twist. Jumble stall: Mrs. Neilson, Miss D. Suckling, Miss M. Dawson. Fairy well: Mrs. French, Mrs. Tinney. Tea-rooms: Mrs. Preston, Mrs. Parminter. . . Mrs. Ernest Hadfield's "At Home." Nearly a hundred guests were present yesterday afternoon at an "At Home" given by Mrs. Ernest Hadfield in .honour of Mrs. M'Cosh Clark, of Auckland,who is visiting her. Tho rooms were gay with rhodendrons, primroses, and other spring flowers, and-the tea-table "prettily'decorated with anemones. Orchestral music was supplied during the afternoon by a band stationed at the head of the stairs, and Mrs. Hadfield sang my charmingly. Mrs. Hadfield received in a graceful frock of white net trimmed with lace, airs. Clark's handsome dress was 'of black satin with delicate lace; Miss : Wood, of Napier, who is also a guest of Mrs. Hadfield, wore cream voile with cream lace blouse. Among the many guests present were: Mrs. T. W. Hislop and Mrs. Waltor Hislop, Mrs. and Miss Butts, Miss Hoadley . (Napier), -Mrs. von Haast, Mrs. Ha'rcourt, Mrs. C. Izard, Mrs. Menzies, Mrs. C. Pearce, Airs. W. Johnston, Mrs. Fitzgerald, Mrs. Brandon, Mrs. Humphries, Mrs. Moorhouse, Mrs; Beattie, Miss E.' Richmond, and Miss . Cobb. The Salvation Army is holding a bazaar in tho Army citadel, Cuba. Street,;in aid of the funds for social work and missions. It was opened yesterday evening by Mrs. W. 11. Williams, .who was introduced by Col. Knight, This bazaar, is only to be opened in the evenings, and it will be continued this evening and to-morrow evening. Last night; the 'floor was crowded with people, and the stallholders appeared to be doing a brisk trade. During the evening selections wero played by the Salvation Army, South Wellington, and tho City bands, and songs were, sung by the Singing Company. The list of stallholders is as follows:—Fancy stall, 'Mrs. Kirk; doll stall, Miss Ewart; draperystall, Mrs. Neilson, and Miss Hawker; sweet stall, Captain Anderson and Mrs. . M'Kehzio; refreshment stall, Captain Detman ;■ refreshment stall, 2, Miss Xremonger and. Miss Hague; flower stall, Miss Stark and Miss Folan; gift tree, Messrs. M'Kenzie, Burgess, and Perkins; and the second drapery stall was under the care of officers from the Maternity Home. Lady Ward, with Miss Eileen Ward and Miss Rubi Seddon, was present at tho performance'of "Our Regiment," given in aid of St. John Ainbulanco Association -. last night, and Sir' Joseph" Wartl "put ill an appearance during the evening. ' i " Mrs. Neill, of Colyton, is staying at the Grand Hotel; ' \•' Mrs. Hull, from' Waipawa, who is visiting Wellington, is staying at tho Grand Hotel. Mrs. Butler.and Mrs. Irwin, of-Ne,w York City, arrived in Wellington by: the Sydneyboat yesterday, and leave for Auckland this afternoon. They are at the Grand Hotel,Mrs. Kenned}', of Feilding, is staying at the Grand Hotel, and so are Mrs, Carr and Mrs. Goodbebere, of Feilding. Mrs. Tringham, of Pigeon Bush, is in town. . Mrs. T. M'lubbin, of Hastings, is visiting friends in .Wellington. Mrs. Chatfield, who is staying for a fortnight at tho Empire Hotel, Feilding, gave a very enjoyable At Home" there on Tuesday afternoon. News has been received by cable, says a Christcliurch paper, of-, the engagement of Miss Kathleen Nedwill, second daughter of Dr. Nedwill, to Mr. H- Newton, of Canada. Mrs. Marmaduke Bethell is visiting friends in Christchurch. Christcliurch has been beating its own record in the way of bazaars, and on Dominion Day the largest bazaar ever held in that city was opened from'the deck of a battleship quite appropriately by the Minister for 'Defence. The battleship, which was-moored at one end 9f the building, was very realistic, and a sailor was in ■ attendance .to conduct visitors along the deck _ down a companionway to a very well-appointed tea-room. One of the attractions of the bazaar was the, march past of a number of pretty girls dressed in the costumes of different regiments, the Life Guards and Lancers winning special approval. A Military Revel is . tho name given to this elaborate bazaar, and it is to last for a fortnight. Mrs. Sydney Williamson, from Hawke's Bay, passed through ' Wellington yesterday on her, .way to Christchurch to attend the wedding of Miss Bertha Julius to Mr. Elworthy, which, takes place to-day. ■ Announcement is made of the engagement of Miss Una Williams, daughter of Mr. T. C. Williams to Mr. Hoare, of London.
