Dr. A. J. Evans, in a lecture on tho recent excavations in Creto to the Cambridge Extension students, said tho labours of tho investigators resulted in the conclusion that Creto was tho true cradlo of European civilisation. At Minos they found strata to tho depth of about 25ft., carrying them through rolics of forms of civilisation which took them back in successivc stages to an antiquity of at least 12,000 years. Tho lecturer showed by slides tho results of his excavations in the Minonian palaces of a period about 1600 years before the Christian era. A groat feature, he said, was the perfection of the domestic architecture. A knowledgo of sanitation was shown equal to tho best of modern ideas.
