PHOENIX CLUB. ■ The twenty-ninth annual meeting of the Phoenix Cricket Club was held at Annit's Rooms last evening, Mr. G. Webb occupying the chair. There was a fair attendance of members. The annual report was as follows: —"The club's teams commenced the season very encouragingly, but with the exception of tho second eleven, did not subsequently fulfil expectations, • which may principally be attributed to the failure of the majority of members to attend practice regularly. The first eloven played seven matches, won three, and lost four, scoring ten championship points, and just failed to gain a place in the semi-finals. The junior eleven played seven matches, won five, and lost two, and until late in the season did very well. The thirdclass team showed promise early in the year, but later suffered somewhat froVn being unable to put its full strength into its engagements as so many games had to be played outside the city, -t is hoped that a few more young players may be induced to join us, that the of this team may be kept well up' for the ensuing season. Tho club's averages have been won as follow :— Senior: Batting, V. Waters; bowling, C. E. Hickey. Junior: Batting, R. Sanders; bowling, A. Connole. The third-class score-book was not returned, but in this team the play of Messrs. R. Webb and T. O'Brien (batting), Morris alid Doherty (bowling) deserves special mention. The thanks of the club are cordially tendored to our president and vice-presidents; to Mr. L. E.
