(BT TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENTS.) . AUCKLAND. September 28. A man had ail alarming experience in trying; to :moiint a tramcar in Lower Queen Street at a busy hour on Saturday. The car had not pulled up when ho attempted to get on board, and, missing his footing, he swung round in front of the car and was flung. heavily across the rails. Considerable difficulty was experienced in rescuing him from his position between the lifeguard and the wheels, but when extricated he was found to be unharmed, and after carefully dusting' his clothes he boarded another car and made for home. ' • CHRISTCHURCH. ' * September 28. The .Canterbury Drivers' Union have just submitted to the employers a schedule of demands for working conditions to form the basis of a new agreement or award. The preference to unionists clause includes a clause compelling a non-unionist when employed to join the union within two • weeks of his engagement, with the addition that ho must continue a member of tho union. The following' further demand is made:— "When any driver's contributions are in arrears, the secretary of the union shall notify his employer, who shall give the driver notice that if the arrears are not paid up'ho .shall be dismissed, and if after , two weeks tho arrears, still remain unpaid the driver, shall be dismissed." The demands regarding wages and hours ask for an increase of the first-mentioned and a decreaso of the lastmentioned. DUNEDIN. September 28. Mr.' J. W. Henton, one of the delegates appointed by the Otago Employers' Association to the annual conference of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, being, un-. able to proceed north, tho local association will be represented by Messrs. J. C. Thomson,. E. Cbisholm, G. Simpson, and W. Scott. _"
