CREYTOWN'S FRUIT INDUSTRY
This district is fast' becoming a'fruit-pro-ducing centre' (writes" our* Greytown ' correspondent), and much ■ interest is' being shown in the matter. ' Inquiries are being made from outside by fruit-growers requiring sectionsfor that purpose:. Mr. R. W. -Tate has just started to put down a new orchard at Papawai on some splendid land he has there. His present orchard is now looking in fine trim.. His brother, Mr. W. : A. Tate, has extended his orchard so as to have some 25 acres down in fruits. Captain Cooper is working assiduously in His orcha.rd, and Mr. Burch is also doing all that is necossary to produce a plentiful crop. • Mr. Hutton Kidd is also bnlarging his orchard, and is .busy with small fruits, and just now is putting down an acre in strawberries. Ho is making, a. point this year of growing a largo quantity of flowers for the Wellington market. The Groytown Fruit Company has made its first plantation of 50 acres of apples, and several small growers are utilising all their spare ground for fruits.
