(Before Mr. W. G.Riddell, S.M.) POLICE CASES. ; ; . DRUNKENNESS. Four persons appeared before tho Magis* trate's Court on Saturday for drunkenness. James Williamson was convicted and fined 10s., in default 24 hours' imprisonment, and a similar penalty wis-imposed, on Timothy Donovan. Two first offenders wero convicted and fined ss. each, with the alternative of 24 hours' imprisonment. A MEAN THEFT. Robert James Christopher Seal, who had a long list of previous convictions against him, appeared in answer to a charge of stealing a bottle ■of sauce, value Is., the property of llobe~rt Yarrow, restaurantkeeper. Sub-Inspector. Pliair conducted the case for the prosecution. Robert Yarrow, restaurant-keeper, stated that accused went into the Star Cafe on Friday night for-supper, and when leaving endeavoured to take' away tho bottlo of sauce. ■ Constable Quinn gave evidence, as to arresting accused. , His Worship entered a conviction and sentence of seven days' imprisonment., _ CHARGE OF THEFT. Ada White, charged with the theft of a number of articles of clothing of a total value of ,£4, tho property 'of Annie" Breen. was remanded to Friday, October 2, bail being allowed in accused's own recognisanca of £10. On Saturday at Mount Cook, before Mr. T. S. Lambert, J.P., John Vincent pleaded guilty to being found drunk in Tory Street ; lie was 'mulcted in 10s. or 48 hours' imprisonment. William Wincop, charged with insobriety, pleaded guilty, and as his muchcut faco told its tale, ho was convicted and discharged. - Andrew Jacob, an African pigmy, who is . a prohibited person, was charged with drunkenness." He pleaded not guilty. The arresting constable gave conclusivo. evidence as to tho fact. Accused, who has been many times before tho Court, was fined 20s. or 14 days in gaol..
