Hokitlka, September • 26. ,Thc hearing of evidence in the Westport perjury case was concluded to-day, when Police-Inspector Black and "accused (Conuolly) were under examination. , . The latter, under a severe cross-examina-tion by Mr. Herdman (leading counsel for the prosecution), admitted to having told at' the Nelson trial' seven distinct lies.Mr. Justice Cooper', at tho conclusion, remarked that thi3 - was the most extraordinary trial that has evor taken place, in the . : colony, being so full of contradictions. Counsel will address the jury on Monday, and the judge's summing-up will bo made on Tuesday. • : .' . • RESTORING A WARD. - ' Christchurch; September' 26. ' The restoration of the Hyman Mark's Ward (which was burned) at the Christchurih Hps-" pital has been completed with the exception of the replacement of the lift.
