Tho Manchester police, using their batons, dispersed a crowd of 2000 unemployed, who wore threatening to raid the Town Hall. The President of tho Board of Trade, Mr. John Burns, has authorised tho municipality of Manchester to., borrow £50,000 for relief works.' . UNEMPLOYED FICURES. London, September 25. , The Under-Secretary of State for tho Colonies, Colonel Seely, in a speech at Chesterfield, admitted that the unemployed now totalled nearly 9, per cent., compared with 4 per cent. for. the same period of 1907.
