The latest news of Rev. Thomas Spurgeon's health is .not- encouraging.. 'He is living in complete' retirement in the country—having sold his lioiiso at Clapham—and as soon as ho can' travel • will be removed to the Continent for another course of baths. Ho has abandoned ,his projected visit to Now Zealand. 1 The Provincial Synod of tho West Indies has elected, the Rev. Herbert Bury, M.A., vicar of St. Pauls's, Avenue Road, N.W., to be Bishop of Honduras and Central America. Mr. Burx, who graduated from' Lincoln College, Oxford, in 1879, was ordained deacon in 1878, and priest in 1880, by Dr. Frascr, Bishop of Manchester, and was for seven years curate of Prestwich, subsequently hecoming incumbent of St, Peter's Stockport. In 188S tho late - Prebendary Kempe appointed him preacher and assistant at Sti James's, Piccadilly, and after holding tho rectory of Nowchurch-iii-Rossondalo from 1891-G, Mr. Bury accepted in 1896 tho vicarage of St. Paul's, South ' Hampstead. Tho seo of Honduras has boon vacant since last year, owing to Bishop Ormsby's appointment to tho chaplaincy of tho English church'in tho Rue d'Aguesseau, Paris, and the Bishops of the Province, under tho headship of the Archbishop of tho West Indies, have taken
llio opportunity of their presence in England for the Lambeth Conference to proceed to the election in Synod. The diocese, which embraces British Honduras and Central America, lias a coast lino of about 1700 miles, and a population representing ma'ny nationalities. The work among British residents is divided up into eight mission parishes. -
