UNION COMPANY'S STEAMERS. The Mpcraki left Lyttelton at G p.m. yesterday for Wellington, and this aftornoon leaves for Sydney direct. The Kaitangata left Greymouth yesterday morning for Wellington, and has part cargo for Lyttelton, whence she is fixed to sail tomorrow. Yesterday morning the Wairuna arrived in W estport, and to-day sails thence .to Melbourne. On Wednesday night tho Rakanoa left Westport for Auckland. To-night the Pukald leaves Greymouth for Wellington, and is due here early -on Sunday morning. The Mapourika was expected to get away from Groymouth last night for Westport, Nelson, and Wellington, where she is due on Saturday. H.M.S. Encounter left- Westport yesterday afternoon for tho Bluff. To-day tho Poherua leaves Napier for Wellington, aiid on Monday goes on the slip for overhaul, etc. TRIAL TRIP OP THE BURWAH. . Advices were received by tho last English mail stating that the steamer Burwali; built by Messrs. John Priestman ' and Company, boulhwick, for tho Howard Smith Co., Ltd., for tho Australian trade, run her trials on July 21, reports tho "Melbourne Index." The dimensions of the new vessel are:—Length, 286 ft.; breadth, 42ft. 9i n .; depth moulded, 23ft. liin. She has been constructed to Lloyd's highest class under special survey. The holds and 'tween decks are free from obstructions, and the wide-spaced tubular pillars give clear cargo spaces. The orections of the, spar "deck include long bridgo amidships, with boat deck above, t.g. forecastle, and hood at the stern. The boat, bridge, and forecastle decks are sheathed with teak, and have ample awnings for hot climates. There are two coaling gaffs at each mast head, and on tho fore deck a Porter's patent derrick fitting for extra heavy lifts. The deck machinery includes Chadburn's patent docking telegraphs. An-ice-house is . iitted up under the bridge for preserving victuals. Electric light has been fitted throughout. The main engines and boilers by Messrs. George Clark, Ltd., South-wick, consist of tripleexpansion engines, with cylinders 2*l, 40, ancf 64 with 45in. stroke, and three boilers, with a working pressure of ISOlb. The trial, with the ship fully loaded, was most successful, tho engines working with perfect smoothness. A speed of 13} knots was attained, which was in excess of the expectations of the owners. THE MARJORY GLEN. A LONG, UNEVENTFUL VOYAGE. The barque. Marjory Glen, from Liverpool, which arrived in tho stream on Wednesday night, berthed yesterday morning. Tho chief officer reports that tho vessel left Liverpool on May 9 last. Owing to perverse weather shelter was sought at Holyhead for tliree days. Then the' voyage was commenccd in earnest, but unfavourable winds retarded progress and kept the vessel in the Channel, lor a week. . Fine breezes afterwards carried her on to the Cape Vcrdo Island, and thence to the equator light winds aiid calms were experienced. The lino was crossed on tho forty-third day out from Liverpool—about a fortnight longer than is usual. Light weather continued until July 29, when the meridian of Greenwich was crossed. The conditions'now roughened, and series of gales were sailed through until the C'ape was readied. More steady weather was experienced until 110 degrees east, thereon strong gales sot in before which the Marjory Glen scudded. Tasmania was sighted on September 10. Modorate weather was met with in the 'J'nsnian Son, and on Monday the barque' passed through the Strait. Adverse woathor kept hor hovering about till picked up by the Duco as reported yesterday. The Marjory Glen was built at Glasgow in 1892, and is owned by Mr. J. Campbell, of Glasgow. This is her first visit to Now Zealand, and her commander (Captain B. Miles) also enters this port, for tho first time. After discharging over 1200 tons' of general cargo here the vessel proceeds to Dimedin,

■ OTTERBURN, FROM NEWCASTLE. -Last Tuesday tho Union Company's chartered steamer Ottorburu left Newcastle for Wellington. She is expected to put in' an appearance on Sunday or Monday. She is 'bringing a' large cargo of coal for discharge here. NGUNGURU ASHORE AT KARAMEA. Telegraphic advice received by tho Marine Department yostorday, from the harbourmaster- at Karainca, roports that the coastal trader Ngimguru is ashore Ilioro, south of llio entrance. Her position is described as being a fairly well sheltered spot, and it was expected she would be refloated on last night's tide. Tho mishap is attributed to her steering gear going wrong. THE RAKAIA. A Duncdin Press Association telegram states that the Raknia' arrived yesterday from London direct. Sho met with a succession of S.\V. and N.W. gales alter passing the. Cape until clearing tile Snares. She passed the latter at 4 p.m. on Thursday about three miles off, but saw no sign of wreckage or castaways. Whilst sho was running down the easting a fire broke out amongst some htraw under the poop, but was extinguished without difficulty, the damage. bo r ing trivial. She brought four Clydesdale stallions and one hackncy stallion for Sir. James Patrick, of Outram, and 23 little owls for the Acclimatisation Society. PASSENGERS FOR SYDNEY.
