ALLEGED CARGO BROACHING.

FIVE WHARF LABOURERS ARRESTED,

An apprentice on tho Federal-Houlder-Shire steamer Rippingham Grange, A. V. G. Doylo, was arrested by Detoctivtj Cassells on Wednesday night, and pleaded guilty at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday to a charge of theft of 25 yards of zephyr, valued at £3, from tho hold of the vessel. Following up the inquiry yesterday,. Detectives Cassells, Androws, and Bailey chartered two cabs and drovo to tho Taranaki Street Wharf, where, acting upon' information recoivod, they arrested live wharf labourers on a charge of theft of leather, silk, and zephyr, valued at about £25, from tho hold of tho Rippingham Grango. Bcforo it was gonerally known what had happened, tho men had been placed in the cabs and removed from tho wharf. Two eases of goods, which wero found broached in tho hold, wero taken charge of by tho do-' tcctivos, who also found a quantity of silk and zephyr hiddon in various parts of tho hold. Tho mon will appear at tho Magistrate's Court this morning to answer tho charges.

An extension of tho high pressure water sorrice was recently dccidcd upon by tho Stratford Borough Council, and tho tender of Messrs. John Duthio and Company, Limited, has now been accepted for tho supply of Manlicsmann solid drawn steel pipes. This is tho same make of pipo that wns recently installed with such succcss in tho Lower Hutt Borough.
