September 25, 0.40 a.m.) Sydney, September 24. 11l the Assembly to-day the State Treasurer (Mr. T. Waddell) brought down his Budget. It showed the revenue and expenditure for the past year to be as under:— 1906-07. 1907-OS. £ £ -'Revenue ... 13,392,430 15,467,000 Expenditure"... 11,881,746 13,793,000 . Surplus ... £1,510,690 £1,877,000 (Mr. Waddell's estimates for the year 1907-08 wereßevenue, £12,799,945; expenditure, £11,949,018; estimated surplus, £850,897.) The estimates for the year 1908-09 aro as under:— Revenue ... ... £14,753,000 Expendlturo ... £14,442,000 Surplus . ... £311,000 During the year 1907-08 the State received from the Commonwealth £3,000,000. During tho current year 1908-09 the Treasurer expects to receive £600,000 less from the Commonwealth. The railways last year returned interest at the rate of £4 10s. 10d., yielding a surplus of £671,000 on the year's working.
