Tho death occurred at an early- hour' yesterday morning of Mrs. Fitcliett, wife of Mr. John Fitcliett, of Ohiro Road. Tho d&ceased lady was an'old aiul well-respected resident of Wellington.
Mr. Christie Simonseus, advance representative for the Bland Holt Dramatic Company, arrived in Wellington Inst evening to make arrangements for the coming dramatic season at the Opera House.
Mr. Jas. Riddick, P.G.M., an Oddfellow Ijor the last fifty years, has resigned his position as trustee for the Loyal Brittania Lodge,' M.U. A resolution has been passed by the lodge regretting Sir. Riddick's retirement.
Mr. P. B. Abraham, of Lincoln's Inn, London, who arrived by the lonic, has left Wellington for Auckland via the Main Trunk lino. Other English visitors to New Zealandare Mr. H. B. Rolfe, of West Ealing, London, and Mrs. 0. Morgan, of Watford.

With; respect to-the rumour, noted by the Dunediii "Star," that Mr. Justice Denniston is contemplating an extended holiday, after which he will retire from the Bench. Mr. Maurice Denniston commuuicates the following telegram received by him from his father: "Please give immediate and unqualified contradiction to statement."
The position'of honorary signalling instructor to the Wellington Public School Cadets, rendered vacant by the retirement, through pressure of other engagements, of Mr. Cecil \V. Palmer, has been tilled by the appointment of Mr. G. Adair. The Education Board, in dealing with the matter yesterday, placed on record. its appreciation of the services rendered in the past by Mr. Palmer.
A Wanganui Press Association telegram states that Mr. Charles M'Koy, a well-known resident of Waitara, died suddenly at a private hotel yesterday morning. He awakened his room-mato and complained of illness, and his friend obtained a cup of hot water. He then went to a chemist' for medicine, but on returning a quarter of an hour later he found that M'Koy was dead. The doctor gave a certificate of death.
The 'Venerablo Archdeacon Fancourt has been rather seriously unwell,- but:,is now convalescent. Ho '-will probably leave early next week on a holiday visit to Wanganui.
- Miss M.'Rig'g, M.A'.J M.Ss.j who" is leaving Wellington, lias resigned her seat' on tha committee of the Victoria College Graduates' Association, and Mr. : H. B. Richmond, 8.A., LL.B., has been appointed in. her stead.
The Mr. "Whyte" cabled as having died on board the Warrimoo, was Sir. Wm. White,' of Sydney Street, who for 28 year£ was on the messenger staff, at the Government Buildings. Ho leaves a widow and two daughters and a son. One. daughter is Mrs. H. W. Curtis, of Wellington, and the other is Sirs. H. I). Bennett, of 31 aster ton. The son is Mr. Norman E. White, of Auckland. Mr. White's remains are to be brought over to Wellington for interment.
At' latest information Bishop Wallis and Mrs. Wallis, of Wellington, were enjoying their residence at a farmhouse on the Yorkshire moors, ten miles from Ripon. Tha bishop writes that his return has been delayed by the arrangements which he has been making for tho "mission of help" to Now Zealand, and he will leave,, with Mrs. Wallis, by the Oratava on November 30, arriving in Wellington soon after the beginning of tho new year.
Mrs. Eliza Humphries, widow of tho lata Mr. William Humphries, died at her residence, 33 Mulgravo Street, yesterday, aged 80 years. The deceased lady was one of Wellington's old identities, having arrived here in 1853. The late Mr. Humphries, who was a nephew of the late Mr. John Plimmor, died in December last. Tho only surviving son is Mr. Georgo Humphries, of the Press Association. There are two daughters—.Mrs. C. A. Marcus, of Upton Terrace, and Mrs,' A. E. Salmon, of Mulgrave Street.
Sir. H. R. Wood, of Dalgety and Co. Ltd., who leaves for Dannevirke to-day to tales charge of tho company's business there, was yesterday made tho recipient of the firm's good wishes and tho staff's presentation of a handsome travelling rug and sovereign case. Mr. Macintosh, the. head manager, referred most eulogistically to Mr. Wood's connection with the firm during tha past # two years, wishing, Mr. Wood and family every happiness and prosperity in tho new and important offico which ho is now to hold.
Nurse Janet Gillies (of Blenheim) lias bean appointed matron-in-cliiof of the New Zealand Army nursing staff, regulations for the organisation of which were : gazetted, and published in The Dominion in May last. Nurso Gillies saw considerable service during the South' African war, and subsequently visited England; where she was introduced to Princess Christian, of ScMeswig-Holstein, president of tho Royal Army Nursing Reserve, to which the New Zealand Nursing Corps is attached. Nurso Gillies underwent a course of training at Netley Hospital during lier stay in England, and her experience, service, and thorough training, should admirably equip her for Her new responsibilities. Our Mastorton correspondent states that the death occurred at Burn?ide, Mastorton, at an early hour yesterday morniug, of Mr. Frank Buick, oiteofthe best-known young farmers of the district, whose father, Mr! W. B. Buick, was one of Hie most esteemed of the old sottlers. The bto Mr. F. Buick was only twenty-four years of age, but occupied various positions on local organisations, particularly on the Wairarapa Hunt Club, the deceased being deputy-master of hounds, and also a member of the A. and P. Association, tho Racing Club, and a pros' iroiit sportsman. The funeral is to take pi-ca to-day. Tho cause of death was typhoid fever. ! . * .
