MAIN TRUNK LINE.

' PRELIMINARY TIME-TABLE,

The time-table for tlio two days' train servico between Wellington and Auckland, which is to commcnco on November 1. and contintio till the nineteen'horns' express servico is installed, has been under consideration for some timo. It is probablo that the train leaving Wellington at tlio same time as iiow will roach Ohakuno at S p.m., and that Ohakiinc will bo mado the stopping-placo for the night. The train will leave that town the no.it morning at about six o'clock, and reach Auckland- at 5 p.m., tlio samo hour aa at present. Tho train from Auckland will leavo at tlio samo hour as now, and tho stopping-place for tho nkht will bo at Taumarnmii. It will probably leavo this place about G a.m. tho next day, reaching r.lartoii in time to connect with tlio New Plymouth-Wellington mail train. ■ ■

It is proposed to book passengers through, and to givo them tho benefit of tlio full mileage rate-; so that tho low fares will come into operation from November 1. These arrangements aro not yet 'quito definite, but wo understand tliat they aro not likely to be doparted from materially. A definite pronouncement will bo made in a few days.

It is pointed ,out that with this servico tho train from -Wellington will get to Frankton as soon as tho present express from Auckland, so that Frankton and all places east and south of it will be served at least as well, in regard to mails, by these " through" trains as by tho present service.
