CHURCH ANNIVERSARY.
The anniversary celebrations of the Church of Christ, Vivian Street, were held'yesterday afternoon and evening.- At-3 p;m; a . sale of work was opened by, Mr. Jos. J. Franklyn, in the presence -of a large -gathering. There was a fines display of. goods.'; The'attendants had a busy time,-and-the•church debt promises in consequence ,to bo ; reduped by , a substantial sum. The stallholders were Fancy goods ' —. Me'sdames Franklyn, Mentzinthin, Davis, and Miss Johnstone; sweets —Misses Mailman and Gray ; flowers—Misses Masters and Nellie Richardsafternoon tearoom —Misses Gertie Richards, Mansiil, and Graco Johnstone. At 6.30 p.m. a largo number sat down, to' tea. The, tables wore tastefully laid, and liberally supplied. lii the Evening tho public meeting "was presided over by Mr. Jos. J.-Franklyn, who, in liis" opening remarks, dwelt- upon tho encouraging signs of increasing life; arid usefulness in tho church, urging tho growing need of a strenuously, aggressive work-in the futuro. • Tho greatness' of the Church's message and mission 1 made it imperative that all. should live righ'tly, pray,-earnestly, anil work -unitedly. Ho suggested as tho'year's"motto:— i " Keeping everlastingly at it brings 'success.'' ' Mr/ Goo. Gray presented a brief report of 'tlije year's work,' and the' following"' programme was then''gone through : — Pianoforte solo,Miss Daisy Gray; anthems by-choir; solo,' Mr. J. Bewley; violin solo, Miss Steen; addresses, on various phases of Church work : by Evangelists A. Fv Turner (South Wellington) and D. M. M'Craekett (Petone). ■' -
