SARASATE,. VIOLINIST.

His Excellency Pablo Sarasate, ;Spaiiish violinist, died suddenly at Biarritz, from internal hemorrhage.
Pablo Martin Meltion do Sarasate was born in Pampeluna on .March-10, 18-14, and educated at the Paris Conservatoire. He first played in London, at' the Crystal Palace, in 1861,' and visited every continent except Australia. : During his artistic careor, Sarasate received honours and decorations from many countries, among which are tho following Grand Cross of Isabel la Catolica of Spain, the badge and ribbon of which were presented to him by her Majesty the Queen Regent, Dona Maria Christina, personally (this order gave him tho title of Excellency);, Commandor of the same; Commander of Charles 111, of Spain and Eonmania; and officer of the Legion of Honour.' He was also a knight of the following orders:— Ro.val Order of Carlos 111 of Spain; Order of Isabol la Catolica; Red Eagle of Prussia; Danebroolc Order of Denmark; White Eagle of Weimar; of Christ of Portugal; of Badon; of Wurtomburg; Crown Order of Prussia; and Order of Dessau. He was also an honorary, member of many academies and honorary professor at Conservatoires of Music, besides Honorary Director of tffo Royal Conservatoire in Malaga. Ho composed a number of fantasias, arrangements of Spanish airs, dances, eto.

Countess Russell (nee Scott) is dcad>
The deceased Countess was the first wifo of Earl Russell. "Whitaker's Peerage" says:— "In 1890 he (Earl Russell) allied himself with Mabel Edith, daughter of Sir Claude E. Scott, 1 fourth baronet of Lychett Minster, who in 1891 and again shortly afterwards sued him unsuccessfully in the Divorce Court. But in 1900 he formed, . or had formed, an acquaintance with a married woman named Marion or Mollie Somorville (nee Coolce), and in America they eaoh obtained a divorce from their respectivo wife and husband, and then went through the form of marriage with each other according to the : laws of'the Stato of Nevada. On returning to England they wore presently divorced from their older ties bv the more binding process of British law, the Earl agreeing to pay .£ISOO damages to Mr. Somervillo. In July of 1901 ho was arraigned before the House of Lords for bigamy and sentenced to three months' imprisonment in the first-class; which .term he underwent, and was remarried soon after liberation."
