OPENED BY SIR JOSEPH WARD, .. The 'Spring Flower Show held at the Town Hall, Lower Hutt, yesterday, Vas a very fine ono, and.well worth a journey from town to see. Tho show was stronger in its open* than in its competitive exhibits, but this did not affect its. success from the onlookers' point of view, and the Hutt may be congratulated on having so many enthusiastio gardeners. Ono would have expected jonquils and narcissi to reign supremo at a spring show, and they were'very_ well represented, a most beautiful selection having como from a distant grower, Mr. A. Booth, of Carterton, to supplement the exhibits'of local growers. But these frirmed only a small proportion." u Of.' hyacinths, ttilips, and'daffodils there wero.very few; anemones formed . a largo class, and the finest exhibit' of':' all. was ono of oirierarias, shown by, Mr. Chapman. This occupied' the centre of the'-large hall, where there were sixty pots filled with plants in full bloom, the most gorgeous things;in red, purplp, royal blues, 'and white that could be imagined. Mr. Harvey had a magnificent show- of cyclamens.- Ono, ■ of a deep purple red, was very fine, and there were soveral plants covered with; white blossoms that looked-like, a flight of whito birds. One large snowy-white specimen s was awarded the championship for tho whole show. Mr. F. Cooper secured a certificate for his exhibit, and for theirs Mr. Chapman and Mr. Harvey wore accorded silver medals. There was a good show \of anemones, and mention should be made of Dr. Perry's show of narcissi, which was very fine. Tho decora, tivo work shown was particularly good, cspe< . cially as regards the tables. . Tho show was opened at three o'clock by Sir Joseph Ward, and Mrs. Chapman's little daughter, Molly, presented Lady Ward with a beautiful shower bouquet of amber-coloured arbutilons tied with long streamers of ribbon of tho same shade, while Sir Joseph was presented with an orchid.
