It is expected'that the rate will he something near 12s. per head, but the outlook will chiefly depend on the state of the London wool niarkei at the end of tho month'. It is almost" certain that _ until then 'the freezing companies will sit tight, and rofrain from' ■ It is reported on good authority that the' operations of; the past twelve months have not been altogether favourable to somo of the 'meat-freezing companies; and-their general rcluctanco to take any further risk is causing a cortain amount of stagnation in the fat shocp market.. .With
the advont of winter in England, tho price of frozen mutton may bo expcctod to harden. Speaking on the situation to our correspondent, an authority stated that it was preferable that tho fat stock market in Now Zealand should commence low and work up, than .that it should begin, as it did last year, at record rates and then fall precipitately.' - Last season a tremendous slump shivered a largo number of farmers ana shook i eyen some of tho stock and meat firms.'
