Unfortunately,- I dropped my-muff, whieir happened to be a sable one'-adorned-with tails, and containing my purso and ticket. Before I could, pick it: up a mail pounced on it, and made.pjff.at top speed towards the,- swinging glass doors , leading but of the station.-. As I followed, calling out,-I saw him ; vanish through' one-'of ; the doors, and reappear by anothor,'like a clown in a pantomime.-! Calm and unconcerned; 'ho was-swinging'a cane/ and no.muff Was .visible. Whilel. stared at liirn in utter amazement, I spied sticking :oiit from''his Coat, which with one? ha lid howas endeavouring to keep closed, one of tho tails of tho muff.; At t.lia.t moment , tho bell which > announced the departuro of tho..trhin:begari. to ring. There was no tiine for words'; it was a case of 'Do or die.'' ■ :
, "I rushed at the thief," adds Lady Randolph, - " seized, tho- tail of . the muff,- anH jumped upon .'the train, lvhibh I just managed to, catch, leaving the' man, with-his mouth wide, open,' still 'staring as the train crawled out ;of tho; station.',''
