POLICE CASE& • (Before Mr. W. G. Riddoll^S.^l.) 'A middle-aged man 'named JarnO 8 ?? ow ~ land, was charged (1) with having on ber .16, ■ 1907, at Wellington, received taps, and a brace, of a total value of £o,V.t' 10 property of Noursa and Co., knowing tW same to havo been dishonestly obtained; and (2) that, being a duly articled seaman on the ship Avon, did absent himself from the vessel without leave. Accused pleaded guilty to both charges, and on the application of Sub-Inspector Phair waR remanded until Friday, morning for sentence, to enable further inquiries to bo made. John M'Kay, charged with insobriety, was /convicted and fined 205., in default seven days' imprisonment. ' Wm. Egan, similarly charged, was convicted and fined 10s., in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Threo first offenders were fined 10s., one was fined ss. and another was convicted and discharged. An alteration was made in the Court books yesterday morning in referonco to tho chargo.. of attempted suicide preferred against Carl Otto Anderson. When Anderson was before ; the Court on Friday an entry "convicted arid discharged " was placed against his namo by the Court in mistake. Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., yesterday erased the entry made on Friday, and substituted "withdrawn by leavo of-the Court," which should have been tho record in tho first instance.
