Formal evidence was given as to distances of various places and points. The cvidenco of Mrs. Pearce, of Westport, who said she was an eye-witness of the murder by Connolly, took a' considerable time. Witness denied some of the passages in her original depositions, and was cautioned later on. She was closely examined by his Honour as to why she had not informed, tlie' police at the outset of what she had Veen, especially as Inspector Bjack made a personal inquiry.
