A ROAD WANTED.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER FOR LANDS. A large deputation of residents of Newlands and I'aparangi waited on the Hon. R. M'Nab (Minister for Lauds) last night, with a view of securing the construction of a moro direct road between those settlements and Ngahauranga. Mr. Wilford, M.P., who introduced the deputation, was accompanied by Messrs. Field and Izard, M.l'.'s. For the deputation, Mr. I<\ T. Moore, a member of tho Makara County Council, also of the Johnsonvillo Town Board, was spokesman. Tho proposed road was stated to bo about two miles shorter than tho present one. If the wishes of tho deputation were acceded to, it would bo advantageous both to tho settlers at Nowlands (which was a private settlement) and to those of Paparangi (which was a Government settlement), as many of them wore employed at the meat works and other industries at Ngahauranga, and resided at their homos. It was mentioned also that the late Sir John M'Kenzio had promised that the access desired should be granted, and that his successor (the Hon. T. Y. Duncan) had expressed himself in favour of the construction of tho proposed road. At that time, tho greater portion, of tho land which would bo required for the new road was native land. Now, the land was owned by Mr. Futter, of Ngahauranga, who had oifered to give a road line free of cost. In re--ply the Minister 'promised-that an officer of tho Survey' Dopartmcnt would visits tho locality and submit a report on tho subject. •
