HOCKEY.

Otaki, September 22. Great interest was centred here on Monday afternoon, tho occasion being a hockey match between Wanganui and the local ladies. Tho attendance was the largest yet seen in the district, and the interest displayed was considerable. Wanganui, playing with more combination, notched two goals to one, and thus won a very evenly 'and stubbornlycontested game. Mr. H. Nicolson officiated as referee. In the afternoon at the Town Hall tho visitors wero entertained at afternoon tea.' At night a further entertainment took place—a dance of a highly successful nature being held. Mr. J. G. Stevens, as director of ceremonies, welcomed tho visitors, Mr. Byron Brown responding. The visitors left for homo this morning.
