The Canadian Government has .discovered an > extensive system of'fraud, which has been practised by-Chinese immigrants. They obtained exemption from the head-tax by means of fraudulent certificates as merchants. The Government has -in this -way been defrauded, of £30,000. UNEMPLOYED DEMONSTRATION. London! As a result of the bomb, outrage at Malmo —where during a strike, .one English freo labourer was killed and seven others were wounded —two Anarchists named Nilsson and Rosberry, and other persons implicated, have been sentenced to penal servitude. THE ALBERTI FRAUDS. London, September 21. Tho managing director, of Messrs. filler and Riley, produce merchants, has issued a statement with regard to losses alleged to have becu sustained :by his firm through the frauds committed by M. Alberti, formerly Minister for' Justice in Denmark. He states that there .will be no interruption of business, and that arrangements will shortly be, completed to obtain Danish butter as hitherto ; ' FOOTBALLER INDISPOSED. A meeting of the underwriters of the stea-' mer Aeon—wrecked at Christmas Island, and possibly a total loss—dccided, in view of tho want of definite information as to the condition of tho wreck, to defer action till the captain's report is received.

Five hundred and fifty delegates from all parts of the Commonwealth and New Zealand will take part. , FEDERAL POSTAL INQUIEY. Melbourne, September 22. The Chief. Clerk of the Melbourne Post Office, in giving evidence beforo the Postal Commission, stated that it would require au expenditure of three-quarters of a million to placo the Victorian postal service on a satisfactory basis.
