WILDING TO HELP TO DEFEND THEDAVIS CUP. (DI TILEGBAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION* —COPYRIGHT.) x Sydney, September 22. • A. Wilding',i the Now Zealander, is coming to Australia to take part in the defence of the Davis Cup against the Americans. The match will take place at Melbourne on November 26, 27, and 287 \ The Davis Cup was won by tko Victorian N. E. Brookes and Wilding at Wimbledon last year. The American pair they met at Wimbledon wero Beals Wright and Karl Behr, whom the colonials beat by three matches to two. In the singles Brookes beat both Wright and Behr, while Wilding boat Behr, but succumbed to Wright; in the doubles Wright and Behr beat Brookes and Wilding. For purposes of comparison it may be added that, in the recent United.. States-Britain contest in 'New York, Wright, who again battles for the States, beat J. C. Parke, but was beaten by M.'J. G. Ritchie, while W. A. Larned the American champion, beat both Parke and Ritchie; in the doubles the Americans Hackett and Alexander beat Ritchie and Parke, the United States thus winning by 4 matches to 1. It will be readily deduced that a contest between Brookes and Wilding for Australia and Larned and Wright for the> United States would be a very .open: affair. Wilding failed before Wright in 1907, and would certainly liavo to play his best to beat Larned. When Brookes beat Wright,-a critic wrote"Brookes is perhaps not so good as Wright overhead; but the American is much his inferior in the placing of low volleys, absolute command of the ball, and also in the matter of service."
