KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Ivarori Borough Council met last night. There were present: The MayoV (Mr. G. I. Dasent), and" Councillors Lissington, Spiers, Hammond, Raine, Bradnoek, and Wedde. A letter was received from the town clerk, Wellington, stating in reply to a communication from the council that the Wellington City Council could take 110 responsibility in connection with outside recreation grounds until they had completed those now in hand. . . - In conncction with this letter it was pointed out that the Karori Borough Council wrote asking for the co-operation of the City Council, and not for financial aid; in. fact, it war. stated that the matter could be arranged at no cost to tho city. : .Mr. F. Bennett, headmaster of the Karori School, wrote asking that school children taking part in the Dominion Day celebrations be conveyed free of charge over tho council's section of tho tramways. The request was granted. The chief inspector of stock advised that instructions had" been given to tho inspector in chargo of the district to take steps to have property in the Karori borough cleared of gorse. In conncction with a, letter from the Wellington City Council regarding repairs to roads, it was resolved to write to the city engineer stating that the council "docs not recognise any liability in the cost of any further repairs to the streets and ways over which the tram passes within the city boundary-" Councillor Lissington proposed, and Councillor Spiers seconded—"That application bo made to the Wellington Harbour Board for a loan of £2000 at 5 per cent, for twentyfive years." Councillor Wedde thought 5 per cent, was too high a rate. Councillor Hammond pointed out that the Council had got to get the money, if not now, by the end of the year. Councillor Wedde considered a loan of £2000 was more than was needed. The rates almost due, together with _ funds in hand, would, he thouglit, be sufficient. The most that should bo borrowed was £700. It was decided to apply for a loan of £1300. A resolution was passed raising the wages of the council's permanent hands by Is. a day as from April. Accounts amounting, to £87 2s. 3d. were passed for payment.
