Dealing with Australia's desire to have a local navy, the "Spectator" says it is practically impossible for tho Admiralty twice tc reject tho scheme for a local Australia!! Navy. The Admiralty cannot- flout Australia's ccstatic ambitions. The Admiralty ought, in tho " Spectator's" opinion, to advise what is the best strategical arrangement- jwssiblo on tho basis of established facts. Imperial unity depends; on the recognition of a strong national feeling in the great colonies. AN IMPERIAL COUNCIL. IF THE KING CAME TO AUSTRALIA. (Rec. Sept-ember 20, 4.20 p.m.) London, September 19. - Mr. W. H. Taverner, Agent-General for Victoria, presiding at the inaugural dinner in connection with the Grocers' Exhibition, urged that tho establishment of an Imperial Council was indispensable to tho adoption of tho Imperial policy. He said that if the King visited Australia, His Majesty would bo reeoived with never-to-be-forgotten en-> thusiasm. .
