Hundreds of pink and red roses were used,, and they weroso exquisite in their imitation that it was difficult to belie re they were not nature itself. Overhead they were, suspended in huge inverted bouquets, and .' st rands of silver fell between the blossoms.; • From •' every point, of these devices came fringes' of blue and silver illu-' sion,: and they wcro draped across tho hall, to be' attached to the. cornicing, that was entirely; outlined witli fringes of electric lights. -7i:f fvor.t of the balconies, was concealed beni.'ti;li festoons of pink chiffon, and at intervals, .were"affixed tall , white masts tipped •with cacli holding aloft an immense laurel wreath,'one for each of the sixteen iihi[ifi of tho fleet, and to the wreaths were tied bows and yard-long streamers of the Stars and Stripes—red, white, and blue. Between the wreaths were gold baskets full of roses, the same arrangements falling from the lights that branched from the balconies. The platform had becn : wonderfully, treated ■with a. screen of ■ roses twenty feet high. Fifteen hundred: programmes were provided, and before the :first, waltz they had run out. .
