It is said that tho only schemo which is likely to solve tho problem of tho Ma«awatu liivor and its Hood waters is sufficiently drastic and comprehensive to practically cliango the I'aco of this countryside. Tho idea is to bring tho Manawatu River from Linton right through tho Makerua Estato to join the present bed of tho river somewhere above tho mouth of the Tokomaru stream. From that point tho river would cut straight across the Moutoa, right through the sandhills to the sea, leaving Foxton high and dry. If this schemo eventuated, tho llax country of Makerua and Moutoa would probably becomo grazing country. FEATHERSTON.
