NGAIRE DAIRY COMPANY.

UNCOOLED MILK. THE CO-OPERATIVE MARKETING SCHEME. At a meeting of the Ngairo Dairy Factory shareholders last week a member declared that for : 'want of cooling tho milk the year's output of cheese was diminished by a value of £2000. The manager said tho milk had been getting worso and worse for tho last six years. The cooling'of milk night and morning would increase the grado mark by 2 points. It was resolved to autlioriso the manager to refu:a all over-ripo milk. A motion against the election to tho directorate of farmers who did not cool their night milk was lost by a large majority. Co-operativo Marketing Schemc. At the request of the meeting the secretary explained the systom of co-operativo marketing. The company had t agreed to consign the output to the National Dairy Association. Tho dairy association would distribute it among four selected firms in London. There would be a saving in commission, and possibly from other sources. The main advantage would be that there would bo somo supervision over these four companies. The agent of the National Dairy Association would havo the privilege of .inspecting tho four firms' books and would watch them throughout tho season. _ They had tho assurance of tho National Dairy Association that they would get the same, advances as in the past. A shareholder: Without recourse? The secretary: No; with recourse. . Mr. J. Lavety doubted if tho firms in London would allow thoir books to bo inspected. The companies would bo a distributing concern, and could " bear " the market. Suppose tho companies distributed in Manchester and Liverpool or in Yorkshire, who was going to pay the expense ? They had no idea what it would cost them. The chairman (Mr.W. Morison) said they had guaranteed their output for a year and then they could withdraw. Tlioy had stipulated to send their output through Messrs. Lovell and Christmas, and tho new system would make no difference to them. Mr. Fryday said ho had seen it stated that there would be a stronger combine against Now Zealand produco than before. Mr. Taylor said that tho other companies that at present did business in New Zealand would combine against the National Dairy Association. . . . Tho chairman said the National Dairy Association and Messrs. Lovoll and Christmas would not receive more than 3 per cent, commission.
