'The 'Tramway .Committee of '.the City Council will bo called upon at its next meeting to consider tho. raising of money foi thoso works, tramway and electric lighting, t-o which tho council iias committed itself, and to dccide which of the others, if any, will bo placed before the ratepayers. It is very satisfactory to know that tho council is actively considering what can bo done, and as soon as a decision is arrived at, the works will be put in hand. The following table shows the works the council is'committed'to. and' the respective amounts they will cost: — £ Purchase of Miramar tram-line within ; city. boundary ... 1,052 Additions to rolling stock ... ... 6,848 Additions to power-house plant (part) ... _ ... 16,007 Compensation for taking land at Winder's corner 1,000 Thorndoh pay-in office... ... ... 6,18? Lyell Bay extension ... 4,00G Island Bay feeder cable ...' ... 1,590 Land purchaso at Kilbirnie (about) l,oof Total ... ... ... ... £37,685 In addition to this, a sum of about £350 C will bo required for other items _ not Specified, bringing tho total to £41,185. TIP WADESTOWN EXTENSION. Tho amount set down for the Wadestown extension, £25,000, will be a separate rate, the Mayor told a reporter yesterday. "Wo havo asked tho engineer," lie continued, "whether it is possible to get a route along tho main road which will avoid the' necessity of tho rcvorso at the bottom. of tho hill. Another routo has been suggested, and tho engineer is taking levels to see if it it practicable."
