ALLEGED MUNICIPAL FRAUD.
Sydney, September 17. With reference to yesterday's cable regarding the arrest of E. P. Smith, Town Clerk of Woodstock, Capo Colony, South African iilos show that tbo Woodstock Council, after Smith's arrest, passed a resolution expressing continued confidenco in him, and granted him three months' leavo of absence on full pay in order t-o allow him to defend tho charge. The first cablegram stated that Smith is ohargeil with fraud in connection with tho purchase of a farm by tho Woodstock municipality, Cape Colony.
