MIRAMAR BOROUGH.

-4 FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. Tho fortnightly meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held last evening, there being present:—Tlio Mayor (Mr. C. J. Crawford), and Councillors M'Leod, B'rodie, Witt, Cooper, East, and Bell. The bank balance on tho District Fund Account was sot down at £315 2s. Sd.; on tho Improvements Loan Account, £1213 Os. 3d. Accounts wero passed for payment— District Fund Account, £212 16s. 9d.; Improvements Loan Account, £871 Os. 7d. A circular memorandum was received from tho Government, inviting the council to cooperate in the obsorvanco of Dominion Day. The memorandum was received. On tho motion of Councillor M'Leod, it was dccided to obtain an estimate of the cost of placing a light in Miramar Cutting, and also at the corner of York' Street and .Miramar Avenue. ' Arising out of a request from Mr, 11. J. Undorwood for certain work to bo carried out in Brandon Street, about halfway between tho Marine_Parade and Scatouu, the Mayor said that improvements wero necessary in that locality. Ho therefore. moved "That tho borough engineer furnish a report upon the improvements required in Brandon, Dundas, and Hector Streets,, and also.upon the cost of lighting Dundas Street as far as the Post office Store.'.' The motion was seconded by Councillor Cooper, and carried. It was decided that tho question of tho rearrangement of the foreshore road and tlio control of the sand drift in tho vicinity of tho old pilot station at Worser Bay bo reform! to tho Public Works Committee, for a report for consideration at tho next meeting of tlio council. Tho secretary of tho Miramar Central, Limited, wroto drawing tho council's attention to the necessity of replacing certain survey pegs, which, from various causes, had disappeared. The council dccided to instruct its engineer to look into the matter. Mr. H. J. Undorwood, in a lengthy communication, pointed out that, having paid a feo of £2 to tho council for tlio purposo of having an inspection mado.of some sec-ond-hand heart. of ■ kauri • flooring timber, which ho had obtained from tho Union Steam Ship Company's old offices, tho inspecting architect had reported that it was unsuitable for building operations on his (Mr. Underwood's) property at Seatoun, and ho desired tlio council's opinion as to tho quality of samples of tho timber, which ho forwarded for inspection. Ho submitted that if tho timber wore inspected by an experienced builder, it would be shown that heart ,of kauri, though some years old, was of moi\p durablo quality than the soft, sappy red pino now supplied. The council decided to ondorso the report of tho inspecting architect; Mr. C. F. B. Livesa.v.
