Empire Hall, t On tho • platform were Lady Plunket,_ the - Hon.. Kathleen Pluiiket, Mr. V. T. Wood. 5 M.P., and Mrs. "Wood, the Mayor and 3 Mayoress, Mr. and- Mrs. Buick,' and Lieut.1 Colonel Knight and,Staff-Captain Henry. 1 His Excellency testified to the noble work 2 tho Army was doing generally, and more ■ particularly in connection with .their latest 3 departure, the Pakatoa Island inebriates' " retreat, whore the most humane accommoda- * tion was provided for sixty unfortunates, 3 who, thanks to the unselfish and untiring 1 zeal and., devotion of tho Army . ofli- " cers, were, receiving the., best treafc--3 ment, to which he could personally testify. 1 He wished the Army every success iu their 7 rescue work generally.1 His "Worship then spoke of the pleasure of ! having their Excellencies with them on the ' first occasion of a festival, of the'kind to 1 take placo outside thc'.leading cities. . . . ' Mr. Wood, M.P.,' also congratulated tho 3 Army on their wonderful progress, and moved 1 a voto of thanks to liis .Excellency and suite " for their attendance, Mr. D. Biiick secohd--5 ing the motion. Lieut'.-Colonel Knight. and s Staff-Captain Henry spoke oil. behalf of. the 3 \rmy. arid made strong .-.appeals for help 3 for the cause.
