At 11 a.m. yesterday the Arahura arrived in .Greymouth from Wellington via Picton, Nelson, and Westport. She was expected to sail at 11 o'clock last night, but a report was received by the Union Cpmpany to the. effect that the sea on the bar was increasing, and it was doubtful whether she would get awav. UNION COMPANY'S STEAMERS MOVEMENTS. Yesterday afternoon the Takapuna loft Onohunga for New Plymouth at 3.15 p.m. The Flora left Lyttelton yesterday afternoon for Wellington, and is (ixed to sail this afternoon for the West Coast. Tho Waitemata leaves Wellington at itoon to-day for Timaru and Oamaru, aud the Rosamond sails at the same time for Greymouth. To-morrow, at noon, tho Poherua leaves for Greymouth. Tho Kaitangata was expected to leave Westport last ■night for AVellington. The Kittawa left Westport at 3 a.m. yesterday for Greymouth. The Monowai and Mararoa left Napier and Lyttelton respectively yesterday, and are due this inorniuz. TYSER LINE STEAMERS.Yesterday the T.vsor Line steamer Indraleina, from New York via Australia and Auckland, arrived in port. The vessel, on completing discharge of 1300 tons at Wellington, will leave for Lyttelton, probably on Thursdav. She is fixed to load at Australian ports for London. Captain R. Craven is in command of the Indraleina, and has with him the following officers:—Chief, Mr. W. Hodgson; second, Jlr. C. Moiling; third. Mr. C. Hancock; fourth, Mr. 11. E. Kblway; chief engineer, Jlr. ATHENIC LEFT CAPETOWN." Advice received by the local agents reports that the Athcnic left Capetown last Friday, ono day early, in continuation of her voyage to Wellington. The Athenic left I<o;idon on August 20, and is due in Wellington about October 5. BTJCEROS, FROM BUNBURY. . To-morrow the steamer Buceros. from Bunbury via Auckland, is expected to arrive in port. She has on board the following carzn of jarrah and tuart timber for discharge at Wellington:—'292 pieces (C. F. Pulley), G3?.i pieces (.Minister for Railways), 16,320 pieces (Millar's West Australian Hardwoods Company). HUDDART-PARKER CO. According to the "Sydney Commercial News" Mr. W. 1. Appleton, managing director of Huddart-Parker Pty., Ltd., has stated that the company is doing its utmost to increase the efficiency of its fleet, and with that object in view several new vessels are now. being constructed. A new, 6000-ton liner, to be named the Werriboe, which has been delayed in construction owing to . the strike among English shipbuilders, will be in Australian waters early next year, and a-new vessel for towage purposes, which could be used as a fire float, will shortly bo en route to Melbourne. Her name lias not been selected, but it is stated that she will have an engine capable of delivering 2000 gallons of water a minute through hoses, and, in addition, a centrifugal pump with a capacity of GOOO gallons per minute for marina salvage purposes will be installed on lier. Iliis vessel (says the "News") will be a decided adjunct to tho port of Melbourne, and will undoubtedly be much availed of.' H.M.S. Encounter leaves Wellington at 6 a.m. to-day for Nelson. Tho schooner Clyde left Greymouth on Saturday bound for Wellington. The Maitai is bringing 2J saloon and 50 steerage passengers from Sydney. Several large shipments of Tasmanian hardwood will be dispatched to New Zealand this month. Last night the Manaroa, which left for Motueka yesterday, put back through stress of weather. Captain Platts took' charge of the Kamona yesterday, Mr. Flynn returning to the position of chief officer. To-morrow the Shaw-Savill'' liner lonic leaves Wellington for Lyttelton, in continuation of her discharging operations. , Captain Stewart resumed command of the Penguin yesterday, and Mr. Naylor took up his former duties as chief officer. Captain Rutter, late of the Waihora, is to take the command of the Aparima, vacated by Captain Stott, who has resigned from the service. Mr. Menzies jdins the Flora to-day as purser. Mr. F. Gannaway, late assistant purser' of tho Pateena, transferred to tho Waikare at Lyttelton on Saturday. : The Oswestry Grange has a large quantity, of iron rails, etc., to discharge while in port here, and consequently she is not expected to leave for Lyttelton until Thursday or Friday. It' is understood that negotiations are proceeding for the purchase of the Union Company's steamer Taieri, botween the Union Company and the Maoriland Steamship Company. So far nothing definite has been decided. , While the steamer Aorere was leaving Patea on Saturday her propellor struck a snag, -with the result that she lost a blade from it. Yesterday she was slipped to have a new one fitted, and she is expected to sail for Patea to-day. . The Maori will re-enter the ferry service on Thursday night, September 24, when she will relieve the Pateena. The latter vessel is then to be withdrawn from commission, and overhauled. Meanwhile, the Penguin will continue running in the Wellington-Picton-Nelson service. It is expected that the Pateena will relieve the. Penguin about a fortnight hence.
