Afternoon Tea at the Hutt. Miss Sadie Lukin was entertained at anothor delightful tea on Saturday afternoon, when tho Misses Johnston gave a "handkerchief tea" tea for her at their; home, Victoria Street, Lower Hutt. About forty girls wore present, and tho guest of honour received many dainty and charming handkerchiefs. During the early part of tho afternoon there was a competition, when cacli girl was given a slip of paper with ono word on it, and later on she was called upon to make an illustration of tho word on a draw-ing-board, wliilo all the other guests wroto on slips of paper what they thought the drawing represented. As may bo imagined, this was the cause of great merriment, and many of the guesses were very wide of tho mark. The prizes woro carried off by Miss S. Barraud, who received a pretty belt, and Miss K Matthews, who won a pretty lace collar. Tea was served in tho diningroom, the table being tastefully decorated with quantities of lovely narcissi and jonquils, and small pots of primroses and violets. Mrs. Johnston woro a black frock, with handsome lace collar. Miss Johnston was wearing a cream serge costume, with pretty braided zouave coat and white silk blouse. Miss V. Johnston's pretty' frock was of pale blue silk muslin, with trimming 'of cream lace. Miss Sadio Lukin wore a smart cream Sicilian costume, trimmed with cream guipuro, and a brown hat, with brown and green trimming; Miss Lukin, cream coat and skirt, Maltese laco scarf, and black hat with feathers. Amongst the guests who were present wore:—Mrs. Stanley Wheeler, in pretty fawn costume and pale blue hat with feathers; Miss Jackson, dark blue coat and skirt, with cream hat and red roses; Miss Bodnin, pale silver grey silk, trimmed with cream lace, with white lace straw liat, trimmed with violet petunics: Miss I. Bodnin, pale pink and green flowered muslin, with hat to match; Miss Lee, blue costume, and pale, blue hat; Miss Elliot, groy costume, and pink silk hat, with black reathers; Miss Sladden, grey; coat and skirt, and brown hat, trimmed with pink and red roses; Miss D. Sladden, cream dress, and hat to match; Miss Buckhurst, light green coat and skirt, and hat with pink roses; Miss Allport, pale wedgewood blue silk, and blue hat and pink roses; Miss Morris, cream costume, biscuit-coloured straw hat and pink roses; Miss Treadwell, blue coat and skirt, and bat to match, trimmed with feathers of darker shado; Miss Greenfield, cream frock, and hat to match; Miss B. Greenfield, brown costume, and brown hat with roses. Miss Hayward, brown, costume; ■ Miss Barraud, fawn costume, with cream and , brown straw hat, trimmed with red and pink roses; Miss Stuart-Forbes, red dress, with oream trimming, and hat to match. Mrs. Cameron, of Opaki, is at. present tho guest of Mrs. Evans, of Wellington. Mrs, Leslie Reynolds is visiting Wellington, and is staying with relatives oh the Terrace; Yesterday afternoon an enjoyable tea' was given for Miss Irene Ainsley by Mrs. Towell, of Petono. Mrs. Towell is an old friend of Miss Ainsley's, and tho two were fellow pupils at the Auckland Convent School. At the Young Women's Christian Association Rooms last night members of tho association were entertained at a fancy dross social given by Miss Cybole Kirk and Miss Cathie. -Between thirty and forty guests woro present, all of them in picturesque costumes, and songs, recitations, and guessing competitions made tho evening pass very pleasantly. A-cable message from tho London corres : pondent of the Melbourne '-'Age" reports tho marriage of Captain Robert l l '., Scott, R.N., who commanded tho National' Antarctic expedition in 1900-1904, to Miss Kathleen Bruce, a well-known sculptor. A luncheon, followed by a bridge party, was given yesterday by Mrs. Johnston at Ivarori.. On the three bridge tables woro 'buttonholes of three different flowers, violets, yellow primroses, and palo pink primroses, while the tea-tables were decorated to correspond. The guests were Mrs. Grace, Mrs. Newman, Miss Johnston, Mrs. H. Johnston, Mrs. A. Duncan, Mrs. Purdy, Mrs. Tweed, Miss Kebbell, Mrs. Rollerton, Mrs. W. Bidwill, and Mrs. Biss. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Saunders arrived in Wellington on Sunday, and aro staying at the Royal Oak Hotel.' Miss Baldwin AVarno, tho English artist who has beon visiting friends in Nelson for some weeks, is now in Wellington, and is staying at Lancaster House, on tho Torraco. Miss Warne is exhibiting some pictures at tho forthcoming exhibition. i A farewell social to Miss Reid was held in the Foresters' Hall last Friday afternoon (writes our AVoodvillo correspondent). Mr. Stevenson, on behalf of the Presbyterian Choir and Ladies' Guild, presented Miss Reid with a silver kettle. There were also numerous presents of household linen and other articles. Songs and recitations made the afternoon pass by pleasantly.
