DAIRY PRODUCE BARGAINS.

THE SLIDINC SCALE. ' . Under the heading "Dairying 'Directors' Dilemma" (telegraphs our special Taranaki correspondent), the."Taranaki Daily News" deab further with the new and puzzling factor ill tho purchase of dairy factories' outputs—the.sliding scale referred to in Friday's issue of.The Dominion.—Tho " News" sets ,out to discuss. The Dominion's contention that basing tho calculation on last year's figures exaggerated the position. The figures of the'same company for 1906-7 have now been obtained, and they show that the output of butter was as follows:— September, 11,7331b. October, "23,7691b. November, 30,7191b. December, 36,2391b. January, 33,7901b. February, 28,2851b. March, 27,8261b. Total output, 192,3751b. Had this amount been sold on the sliding scale quoted, it would have brought £9075 Ids. 4id.; while at a straight-out sale at 113-Bd. the returns would have been £9117 15s. 6d:—a difference ■of £42 ss. l}d. The sliding scale.therefore was not quite so good as 113 : 8d l ."'pSr' ; lb.', , "bUt'ivas'still a better 1 ' offer than tho 11 l-Bd. quoted by tho agent, whose remarks gave rise to the investigations of tho " News." A straight-out sale of the produce at lljd. would have realised £8917 7s. Bd. The pleadings of consignment, agents and. the carefully-schemed offers _pf buyers are certainly 'matters that must give directors of dairy l companies grave concern. Thero seems now to be a greater inclination to sell at a price rather better than those of the sliding scale quoted in tho recent article. DAIRY- OUTPUTS. A sale at Hid. to Messrs. Nathan and Go!, of Wellington (says our Taranaki correspondent), is reported from the Opunako district. Tho Eltham Dairy Company estimates that with a good season they will turn out 850 i tons of butter. MASTERTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. J; M. Jobnstono, of Palmerston North, for tho scheme he outlined to the committee for laying out the new show grounds. It was recommended to tho next annual meeting to elect Mr. Johnstone an honorary, life member of the association. Consideration.of Mr. Johnstone's plans was deferred for a month. The chairman read the provisions of the Shearers' Accommodation Bill, and moved that tho association enter an emphatic protest against the Bill, and that the .members of Parliament for Masterton and Wairarapa be asked to vote against it. This was carried unanimously. . ~ On tho motion of Mr. W. Perry, it was resolved .to forward letters of appreciation to Messrs. NOMINATE A DELEGATE. At a meeting of the General Committee of the. Masterton A.. .and P. Association on Saturday afternoon a letter was received from tho Manawatu Association, suggesting the nomination of Mr. J. C. N. Grigg, of Longbeach, as tho representative of A. , and P. Associations throughout tho Dominion at the proposed conference under the Flour and Other Products Monopoly Prevention Act, 1907. This was endorsed. MASTERTON SHOW MATTERS. The Masterton A. and P. Association's General Committee, in , re-drafting the schedule for the next show, decided : (says', our correspondent) to add a fresh class in the dairy section for butter in tho farmers' class for .pan cream. In other rcspccts the schedulo is_ much the same as last year. In tho championship leaping competition it was decided to divide £40 in prizes, the amounts to bo £25, £10, and £5.
