, INSURANCE AGAINST ACCIDENT. [Br MLEGBAI'n.—SrECIAL OORBESPONDENt.) Auckland, September 12. The trouble at the New Zealand Crown Mines relativo to\ the question of the insurance of contractors against accidcnt has been settled, pending the action by-the Government to tost the alleged flaw in the Mining Act to be heard on September .17. ' Meanwhile, the superintendent (Mr. Dii.w) has agreed to pay the insurances, deducting tho cost from the quartz won by the contractors, which decision is in keeping with tho detniiiids of the Miners' Union. As a result many of tho contractors havo resumed work -.underground, and tho .remainder will go on to-£ay. Tho reefs in tho various stopes are as follow-.—Eastern Block: No. 6 stope, reef 14ft. wide; No. 7 stope, reef sft.; No. 8 stope is being rison for in blank ground. Branch Block: No. 5 stope, 15in. of stone; No. C stope, reef 12ft.; stoping is being carried on in blank ground between the branch and the western reefs. In. the drive oil No. 9 lovol the roof formation has narrowed to 15in. In No. 9 winze there is U band of mullock on the footwall side, but on tho hangingwall sido of' tho winzo there is a a solid body of stone without tho appearance of a wall. No. 9 lovol: Repairs'aronow completed, and tho driving of this level south has been commenced on the reef track. No. 1 lerel: The rise to this lovol is timbered up. The sinking of a winze will bo commenced early next week. During tho week 150 tons of stono have been raised. The battery is working full time.
