— SIR T. BENT ON AN ANGLO-SAXON NAVY, AUSTRALIA WOULD BORROW TEN MILLIONS. (BY 'iEIEGEAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COFYEIGHT.) i Melbourne, September 12. . Sir Thomas Bent, Premier of Victoria, who has been indisposed, states' that when ho is able to see Mr. Deakin, the Federal Prime Minister, he intends to ask him why England, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia should not contributo to have a navy, including battleships, in the Pacific, and why the United States should not contribute also, making it a joint concern. America, ho says, has interests in the Pacific, which will be increased when tho Panama Canal is completed, and tho presence of an Anglo-Saxon navy in tho Pacific would steady a lot of other nations. The countries concerned might borrow money to construct such a navy. Australia's sharo would bo about ten million pounds. When Mr. Doakin was seen in connection with Sir Thomas Bont's • scheme,. he asked to be oxcused from saying anything about it.
