■ Mr. W. D. Lysnjir, Mayor of Gisborne, is at present on a visit to Wellington. Dr. Pomare, Native Health Officer, returned from Lyttclton by the Pateena yesterday. _ Mr. John Campbell, Government Architect, and Sir. J.• T. Loucli, Resident Engineer, returned from Napier on Saturday. Sir. W. R. Holmes, Etigincer-in-Cliiet of the Public Works Department, is expected back to-day from a visit to Ohakuue. The death occurred 011 Friday last at Koputa 1111 a (Manawatu) of Mr. Charles EdHome, late-of the Stamp Department, cllington. Deceased was 58 years of age. The Rev. J. J. North will leave on Friday to represent the New Zealand Baptist Union at the Australasian Baptist Congress, to be held in Sydney from September 22 to 28. Mr. North will also visit Melbourne in response to an invitation to preach at the Collins Street Baptist Church in that city. He will bo absent about five weeks from Wellington Mr. Albert Foster, for the past six yearß counter clerk in the Wellington Gas Company's office, was made the recipient of a ■ presentation by his fellow clerks on Saturday, when he severed his connection with the company. The head accountant (Mr. Stevens) made the presentation, and Messrs. Birch and. Norwood also spoke in commendatory terms of Mr. Foster, as a clerk' aril a good follow. Mr. Foster is about to go on the land in the Wanganui district. , ■ The Rev. J. Humphreys. 8.A., Pongaroa, has been appointed to take charge of the parochial district of' Aram oho-Wait otara, rendered vacant by the preferment' of the Rev. H. Watson, M.A., to the parish of St. Matthews, Masterton. , Mr. Humphreys, prior to his appointment to Pongaroa two years ago, laboured in the populous districts . of Aberdare and Cardiff, South Wales. At the latter place he was 'an assistant to the . present Bisnop of Llandaff (Dr.'Hughes),. •
