September 12. One of the most progressive schemes in the lu-atory. of New Zealand coal mining is being formulated by tho Green. Island mine proprietary. It is- to dig out the thousands of tons of buried slack that now' block portions 'of the mines, and is to some extent a spurco of danger, and to utilise this waste coal, hitherto of no value, for the generation of cjcctriclfcy with which to work the mining and'pumping plants. « To-day .-all; tno telegraph by earth currents, which como from terrestrial and atmospheric disturbances supposed to bo related to the spots on the sun, .
